In April 2025, Senior Software Implementation Consultant and yogi, Subramanya (or Subbu) Vernekar, started leading gentle and accessible fortnightly yoga sessions. Below, Subbu shares his thoughts on these sessions and the positive impact for mental health at Dayshape more broadly.
Today, as we observe World Mental Health Day, we're reminded of the importance of caring for our minds as much as our bodies.
In our fast-paced work and personal lives, stress and constant connectivity can quietly take a toll on our wellbeing. Yoga offers a simple yet powerful way to pause, reset, and restore balance. Beyond physical movement, it encourages mindfulness – helping us stay present, calm, and grounded amid daily challenges.
More than a series of postures, yoga is a holistic practice that unites body, mind, and spirit. Regular practice has been shown to reduce anxiety, improve focus, and build emotional resilience – all of which support mental health and harmony in the workplace. Even a few minutes of conscious breathing or gentle stretching can bring meaningful shifts in energy and mindset.
As part of our ongoing commitment to wellbeing, I've been leading 30-minute breathing and stretching sessions every fortnight – a simple practice to help Dayshapers unwind, refocus, and bring calm into our workday. These sessions offer a chance to step away from screens, reset our energy, and connect with ourselves and each other in a supportive space.
On this World Mental Health Day, let's take a moment to breathe deeply, move with intention, and reconnect with ourselves. Small steps toward self-care make a big difference – for our individual wellbeing and for the collective wellness of our workplace.
"I love the yoga sessions and I really feel the benefit of them. It's so nice to be encouraged to stop, think, and focus on yourself and your breathing – nothing else! - Sam Dupen, Customer Success Enablement Manager
"Wellbeing is one of our company values, and Dayshape provides a host of initiatives and benefits to ensure that all Dayshapers have access to the support they need. Our healthcare providers in the UK and US include mental health support, and UK employees can make use of Dayshape's partnership with a direct counsellor. Initiatives that are part of our regular working life (such as the office wellbeing library and the yoga sessions) send an important message that wellbeing is a vital part of our company culture." - Lucy Moore, Talent Management Specialist and Mental Health First Aider
